This tale is about a tail – a tail that belonged to a little red squirrel, and his name was Nutkin…goes the intro sentence. As mentioned, it is a story about the tail of the squirrel, something that reminds you of a bush that caught fire. You least expect how the ending turns out. Nutkin is a mischivieous, irksome little squirrel, who is at its wits end and drive others nuts by speaking in riddles. Mr. Old Brown, the owl in the Oak Island as patient as he can be, lost his patience and taught him some manners in such a way that he remembers his lesson throughout his life. I bet the kid who reads this would be jumping up and down and puts on Nutkin act.  I am looking forward to read this out to a kid who is equally excited as me about such books.

Know the Author - Merle Hodge

Merle Hodge Merle Hodge Born in Trinidad in 1944, Merle Hodge along with her 3 sisters were taken care of by her grandmother. Raised up by the tough lady, she became bold and   independent. Merle Hodge was one among a very few who attended secondary school. She later won a scholarship to join for Undergraduate Degree and later for Masters in Philosophy. Merle Hodge is the first African Caribbean to publish a novel, Crick Crack, Monkey in 1970. It was followed by another book, For the Life of Laetitia for young adults. Her writings, reflects the colonial education, culture and lifestyle of the colonized. Her books throw light into the racism, gender discrimination and social divisions during post colonial period. Published in 1960, it rounds up an event happened when the author was 10.
